Almost finished...

12 months ago I started playing with triangles, using repeated designs to make hexagons (inspired by the quilts made by Linda Rotz Miller Quilts & Quilt Tops) plus I added Y seam spacers - was I CRAZY?? Short answer - yes... Yes, I was!! ;)

Some worked perfectly first time, others not so much. Plus, the fabric I used looked like a perfect repeat pattern, but clearly had some differences across the fabric, but it was close enough for a first try. Also making it difficult was not having the proper rulers. I was using a cardboard triangle template to try and make accurate cuts...

Anyhoo, I added some missing pieces from some plain white, squared it off and added some framing. Thinking about it now, I should have used a contrast - that would have given me an interesting frame, but hey.... hindsight is 20/20, right??

It now quilted in the ditc, through the centres of the Y and back through the centres of the hexies. I found that these were quite bulky, but not unmanageable. I am doing a self binding in red, only because this is what I had on hand....

Maybe I'll finish it this weekend? If the weather stays as miserable as it is now it's a pretty good chance.... ;)

Time for a change of pace...

I've had to pause on my Oz tins - I need to figure our how to do these pesky faces!

I the meantime, I whipped up a couple of CPK overalls. This is a pattern I hadn't used before, and it works pretty well. It has an all-in-one strap, meaning the strap actually ended up on the bias which was an issue for stripes! So I used a cute patterned "boy" print, and added a top for underneath, and another preemie is dressed. :)

We're not in Kansas anymore, Toto...

I had to have a go at  makingToto! 

I has a plastic pill bottle that I saved for exactly this purpose. The fur could have been better, so it makes him look a bit scruffy, but he still worked! He still needs a collar and a better haircut....

And here is the whole gang, although still faceless.... Still need to work on that!! :)

Slow progress - too many distractions!

I wrote this post AGES ago, but never posted it! I have not been sewing or crafting for quite a few weeks :( It's my own fault, lack of motivation.... But I'm back in the swing, so saddle up!!

I finished up scarecrows limbs, and I'm quite pleased with the result!

I didn't count on, though, how thick it would become with the vinyl, or the fact the vinyl has a white edge! Major oversight, but fixed with a bit of paint... :)

Just his hat to go... And progress for Lion, too! Managed to find some felt to match, but may have to change the fabric for his head....

Scarecrow now has a hat! Really pleased with it. I put a little piece of elastic inside to "crumple" the crown. Oh, and I snipped around his hood so it's not so smooth...

Plus I put all the pieces for the lion onto the felt base. I wasn't happy with the paint colour, so the felt will have to do. He still needs a tail 'cause I ran out of the felt! Maybe next weekend he will be completed...

If I only had a brain... and some courage...

I have progressed with Scarecrow and Lion, but both need something - Lion needs some felt or a better colour paint for his limbs and Scarecrow needs arms, boots and a hat.

I tried to paint the limbs on Lion, but couldn't mix the right colour :(  I'm gonna try Spotlight tomorrow and see what options I have. I love the fur, though! 

For Scarecrow, I ended up using a fat quarter of brushed cotton on a felt base, gathered slightly at the top and "waist" and felt for his legs. I plan to use some brown vinyl for his boots and gloves, and some ravelled cotton for the straw. Should work (I hope!) just need to dig out the vinyl - I know it's here somewhere.... ;)
