Dottie and Dimple... done!!

I decided to finish Dimple with the colours I had already picked - but with two ears - and realised it wasn't the fabric that I didn't like, it was his face! It was far too simple compared with Dottie, with just a pair of French knots for eyes and that's pretty much it.

So, I drew a new face, similar in style to Dotties, with black dot eyes and painted nose. I kept the dimple, as this is why she (he??) is called Dimple. Duh!! He's got a little wonky eye, but still cute. This is him before I stitched him to Dotties arm...

So, with Dimple now attached, here she is!

She is from the magazine below. They don't seem to have dates or editions, but I have a couple of different versions. I quite like the covergirl, too, but she is HUGE! I don't enjoy making big dolls - Dottie is only about 35cm tall...

Now, on to the next thing! Maybe a quilt is in order, for a change of pace, or a cushion? Time to get some books off the shelf, methinks...... ;)

Bows and lace

A hair bow and some lace - that's better... ;)

Dimple is still ongoing. Not sure I like him a whole lot in his current form. He is supposed to be kind of patchy with a missing ear, but I think I might redo him in calico... with two ears...

Dottie and Dimple

So, I cleaned up around my work table, and am heaps happier! ;)

I was given a Doll making magazine last week at Doll Club, and inside was Dottie and Dimple. What drew me to her was that she is small, simple and painted. What more could you ask for??

I even found some blues to make it with, which is a plus. Dottie is pretty much done, but Dimple is still in progress. I think she needs something on her skirt - some ric rac, perhaps, or some ribbon??

Oops! Forgot about the bow! That's easy fixed, though....

The Bride and Groom are on hold for a bit, while I get my mojo back. A break never hurt anyone, right? :)

Witchy progress...

After finding the perfect "hair", I woke up early and got it all attached. It looks like several strands of yarn, but is actually all attached in a spiderweb effect! Hard to describe, so here's a pic :

I tried a different way of attaching the hair, basically wrapping the ends in bias binding and stitch them on in rows. I planned ahead of time to make the back of her head black to hide the gaps in the yarn hair - big plus! Loving this angle that shows her eyelashes.... So cute!!

I also added her ruby slippers! I should have done them in fabric before I stitched the legs, but painting them in red then added glitter didn't go too badly.

She now also has a felt witchy hat. It needs a press and maybe some wire to hold its shape, but size wise it's good. The top was freehand cut, only because I was limited to an off-cut of felt I had on hand. It's shorter at the front and dips down at the back....

Now she just needs a tunic.... Do I go simple or set in sleeves?? Probably try simple first, and see what happens...

Rabbits!!

About 10 years ago, I made a rabbit from a pattern I photocopied out if a library book. Just recently I was cleaning up, and I found the fabric I had used for his shirt and kept it aside. I found the pattern - complete with the original rabbit! - a few days later. So I matched them up with the intention of making his female companion.

So, rather than work on the bridal bears like I should have, I dragged out the bits and pieces, and made another rabbit!

It took only an hour or so to make the body, but the rest of the day to make the clothes! They have been stitched on, so will for display only. Originally, I only had the heart fabric and the burgundy, but realised I would need another contrasting fabric for the wings and apron. I found some checked fabric that worked OK, so made a little heart out of it to match in the boy with the girl.

Even better, I didn't have to buy anything!!

So, here they are....
