More mini Supers!

After a few hours without power, I managed to finish up a few things for Santas.

I had a leopard dress-up that needed a change of zip and a new tail. Done!

I also still had 4 Superman capes to be done from the previous lot I took from mum.  However after some feedback on the last couple, I removed all the armholes. Apparently, the "shirt" style was a little difficult for the kids to get on and off, so the bib style I used for Batman was a better option. I have to say, though, I did not cut these out. I only sewed them up and put the logos on. All the construction is based on the sample (below) and from my experience in sewing stuff. It is no way the ONLY way, but I think the finish is better than the sample, in my opinion. ;)

I also had a couple cut with a front only and a tie up for the back (like the purchased one, above...)

On the left, the "tie up" versions, the right, the "bib" versions. They appear bigger because I had to trim the bib ones down to take off the armholes. Maybe they will be better for smaller kiddies? :)

To get a better idea of how they work, since I don't have a child to try it on, the chair has to substitute......

The tie up version has a front only attached to the Cape at the shoulder, with a tie attached to both sides. The child will need adult assistance to tie it for them.

The bib version has elastic sides, like a netball bib, with the Cape attached at the shoulders and the neck. A child can easily put this on by themselves.

You know, once you get started, you just can't stop! Even though each one is slightly different, the general process is the same, so you can kinda get into a rhythm. ;)

More bags, different style....

So, I thought I was finished with bags, but I found a couple of pieces of scraps that were just begging to be used up!

I had made library bags previously out of the green bug fabric but all that was left was a 50x50cm-ish square. I found a piece of green that went well with it and used the square to make a double sided pocketed new mum baby bag, for Santa's Workshop to fill and give to needy families.

I also used up some of a pre-printed cot bumper print that was too narrow to use on its own. I put a 5cm wide gusset down the sides and bottom, plus a band at the top with matching handles. One with shorter straps had no lining, the other has been lined with some light weight curtain fabric. Should have done this to both, but too late now! Both of these also for Santas.

Also made a couple of mini bags, using the most sparkly fabric I could find! I decided that I can make these out of ANYTHING!! LOL!! All I need is an adhesive liner and stabilizer, no probs. However..... Make sure the adhesive is sewable!! This one was a high level, no-sew, so it was constantly gumming up the needle. Online solutions included sewing machine oil to remove the gum off the needle, but I found that some spray lubricant on a cotton ball worked pretty well. Just run the needle through the ball occasionally and it seemed to prevent the buildup.

Anyway, a productive weekend was had by me. Hope you did too!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!

Library bags... Part 2..

Bought some zips, so all the pencil cases are DONE!!

These are the easiest thing to make, and I think they just finish the bags nicely.

I didn't realise quite how faded one part of the fabric was until I looked at the photos! Since it was recycled fabric, I wonder what it was used for?? Maybe it was next to the window for a looooonnnnng time?? The fabric quality is fine, just the slightly faded print.....

Library bags...

Bought these remnants a while ago. It was 2 pieces of curtain fabric approx 115cmx110cm, so with some careful planning I managed to get 4 library bags (so not too big, about 45cm square) and 4pencil cases (to be finished - no zips!!).

These will probably go to Santas Workshop but will try and sell them first and recoup some cash! I know they were only recycled remnants, but threads cost money, and then there is the power (iron, lights, sewing machine, etc) and time.....

And I sold NOTHING at Doll Club, not that I expected to. Maybe I will try a swap meet when it gets a bit warmer... Maybe....
