I won a prize!!

Canning Show 2017
For the first time, they had a theme, which included a Peoples Choice prize - and I won!!

The theme was "tea cosies" - any medium, any style, whatever you like. I found a picture online of a style that I liked, and off I went.

No pattern for the original, just a link to purchase one already made:

Thank you for the tea and bag, Madura!!

Prizes!

Just the one prize from the 8 entered into this years Canning Show, but the main issue that I could see was no section for recycled items! (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.....)

None of my nutcrackers won prizes, but Dotty got a second.

I put some in Christmas (the winner is the red elf on the edge of the table)

and some in Any Other Article (the winner was the Steampunk Jewellery)

and more in Any Other Article, but there were not enough entries to judge

Mum managed a First for her cushion -

- but didn't get anything for her dessert plate... They look good enough to eat!!

All of my entries, all together.

You are allowed to enter items again if they don't win prizes, so I'm already up by 7 for next year, (if I don't give them away for Christmas....)

Here are some of the other entries that caught my eye.... This one is actually a junior entry...

Canning Show 2013

This year I made so many things solely for the purpose of putting into the Show. Although I finished more items, I missed the cutoff period for some, but on the plus side, I'm already up for next year! :)

So, I ended up with 11 entries in all, and got 4 prizes. Not bad, although I thought it would be higher. Perhaps it's because I tried to cover too many categories? I don't know....

Anyway, here is my haul: 2x firsts, a second and a third.....

Mum had better odds, entering 3 items and getting 2 certificates - a second and a highly commended...

The funny part is, I beat her in the Rag Doll section! It's all in good spirits, though. The cash prizes don't hurt, either... LOL!

Pattern books out, planning for next year..... :)

And the winner is.....

So, the Canning Show is over for another year, prizes are awarded, presentations done....

Not too thrilled with my entries this year. Only one was planned, one was already half done, two were from last year that didn't receive prizes, and the last one was soooo rushed, I am also ashamed that I put it in at all....

Lets start from the top!!

FIRST PRIZE
I had already made the dress for the Angel doll years ago, including the shoes, it just needed finishing! I made some underwear, added the wings and voila! Prize winning Dressed Doll.

SECOND PRIZE
I made this pink apron for last years show, but there was no category that fitted, so no prize. It is fussy cut shoes ironed on, and quilted.

THIRD PRIZE
Same as the pink one, the green apron was already done for last year. Fussy cut flowers, sil leaves and the vase is a pocket. All my own design! Not big on practicality, but visually, not too bad. It WAS ironed when it went in, not that it looks like it now!

OTHER ENTRIES
The Foster Child was made, but the clothes were very rushed! Not my best work. Almost too embarrassed to put in, but thought what the heck?? I paid my entry fee!! There were some gorgeous entries up against it, so no surprise that there was no prize. (I'm a poet and didn't know it! LOL!!)

The Christmas Star mini quilt was out-gunned by a much bigger quilt, and the Apple Tree wall hanging was also not up to the standard of the others. A comment attached said it needed more quilting, but I followed a pattern! Maybe I will add some for next year? I'm already 2 up!!

Every year, mum and I say the ribbon is ours, but every year we leave it too late! One project per month equal 12 entries - in theory....... My problem is motivation and inspiration. I never seem to have both at the same time! The hardest part is starting.......

Prizes, prizes, PRIZES!!!

Spent this morning as a Steward in the craft pavilion at the Canning Show. Spoke to loads of people, gave out loads of schedules. Definite lack if entries this year, as well as ticket numbers through the gate...

Come on people!!! We have to support our local Shows, or they will cease to exist!!!

Anyway....

So, after considering not putting her in at all, my Rainbow Fairy actually got first place!!! Amazing!! And my rushed little striped overall man came third! Mum is not pleased, since her dolly didn't place.... Sorry, Ma.....
Also got 2nd place for my child's apron/pot holder/oven mitts combo and my Matryoshka got a third prize. The other aprons failed to be judged due to the category they were placed into. Oh well, at least I'm up 2 entries for next year already! Hopefully they add the "any other article" category back into the sewing section......

Better start sewing for next year! I feel a champion ribbon coming on.....

Apron finished

Not as nice as I would have liked it to be, but not too bad.
I put a layer of batting between the layers, and run a top stitch over the top spiraling out from the centre.
Posting this from blogger on the iPad, just to see how it goes....
